Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) disk is the new storage (r)evolution. Based on flash cells like SSD SATA disks, the nvme disks communicates with the CPU directly through PCI-express lines instead of SATA bus. Thanks to the PCIe bus, it offers important gains in performance:

  • In bandwidth: multiplied by 10 compared to traditional SATA hard disk.
  • In IOPS: NVMe can reach up to 240 000 IOPS in read, an 16 000 in write (sequential r/w, 4KB blocks).
  • Latency strongly reduced thanks to the NVMe Driver.
